ING Group and VISA Join Identity Debate At The European e-Identity Conference 2008

Global Head of Channel Management at ING, Herco le Fèvre And VP VISA Europe, Bernard Ovink Join Europe’s IT Security Elite At The Hague, 10th-11th June

eema, the Independent European e-Identity & Security Association, today confirmed that senior representatives from Dutch insurance conglomerate, ING Group, and secure electronic payment giant, VISA, will present a keynote and breakout session respectively at the European e-Identity Conference 2008, eema’s 21st annual conference.

Global Head of Channel Management at ING, Herco le Fèvre and VP of VISA Europe, Bernard Ovink join the guest speaker line-up across the two days, which also features the Head of ICT at the International Criminal Court, Ian Blacker and Vice-Mayor of The Hague for City Marketing, International Affairs, ICT & Organisation, Frits Huffnagel.

With the majority of his 21 years banking experience in secure electronic payments and e-banking, le Fèvre will address delegates on 10th June, with a focus on how identity management has changed from simplicity of a cashier recognising a customer in a bank to a world of Customer Due Diligence, SEPA and international standardisation. le Fèvre explains, “Customers now want to conduct their financial business as quickly as possible, 24/7. There should be interoperability between the various applications used by different banks and the ‘single sign-on’ should be widespread. That old feeling of customer and provider being face-to-face can still be built into modern electronic identity technologies.”

On 11th June, Ovink will speak at a session during the eema track with the spotlight on federated identity. Joining Director of International Business Development at eb2b.com, Andrew Ferguson, Ovink will present a study drawing on VISA’s own de facto authentication federation, detailing some of the main operational and commercial challenges facing the implementation of federated identity at an organisation and how they can be overcome.

Executive Director of eema, Roger Dean comments on the programme for the conference, “We are delighted to be welcoming some very interesting, high profile influencers and decision-makers to the table to discuss the future of electronic identities for business, government and individuals.”

The European e-Identity Conference will tackle the issues surrounding electronic identities as a core enabler of today’s personal, business and government processes. Delegates from European governments, academic institutions and technology experts will unite to debate and share best practice, via four partner session tracks across two days, including presentations, panel discussions, round table sessions and accompanying workshops.

Joining eema as conference partners will be the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) and the platform for eNetherlands and e-Identity forum, ECP.NL, as well as The Municipality of The Hague, who will be hosting session tracks.

Event sponsors and exhibitors include Microsoft, Thales, BlackBerry, Corestreet, Cyber-Ark Software, ING, Grabowsky, Marqit and Novell.
