Chris Bullock
CEO, S3 Consulting
Chris Bullock

With over 15 years in the IT industry Chris has seen many changes to and has managed many aspects of the IT organisation including the evolution of theories and practices that we now call ‘Green IT’. Experience gained managing IT environments globally for large multi-national enterprises led Chris and his business partners to set up S3 Consulting Ltd in 2004 as a virtualisation specialist consultancy who provide expertise to VMware themselves. S3 has gone from strength to strength and today is the UK leader for the global not for profit organisation, The Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI). S3 work with companies such as HP, Intel, Fujitsu, Microsoft and Google amongst others as part of the CSCI and promote their message around the UK at events such as this.

Bob Crooks

Since obtaining his Masters with distinction in the Analysis and Design of Information Management Systems at the LSE in 1981, Bob has been involved in all aspects of the IT profession from writing software, to more recently leading the UK Fisheries Authorities’ programme to procure, develop and implement satellite communication systems for tracking fishing vessels and for the submission of electronic sales notes and logbooks

His main role now is that of driving forward Defra’s Green ICT programme in collaboration with IBM, Defra’s strategic IT supplier. This aims not only to reduce the department’s ICT footprint, but also to make greater use of ICT tools and services in reducing the department’s operational footprints for travel, paper and accommodation.

More widely Bob is Defra’s lead on the Cabinet Office’s CIO/CTO Council’s Green ICT Development Unit(GDU) for which he co-ordinates work on the government Green ICT strategy with a number of Defra Policy initiatives around ICT sustainability, including the Market Transformation Programme and the development of Government Buying Standards for IT assets. He is also heading up a Metrics working group for the GDU.

And in his spare time he is Chair of the Board of Trustees for Guildford Action – a local charity for disadvantaged people and families in need of support in the Guildford and Waverley areas – for which he was awarded an MBE in 2008

Peter Charville-Mort

Peter Charville-Mort

Since 2009, Pete has covered energy and carbon management strategies, including enterprise software and technology solutions. He advises global firms across all sectors on best practices for carbon and energy management and software selection. He previously worked for environmental consultancy ERM and holds a MSc from Imperial College in Environmental Technology.

William Ehmcke

William Ehmcke

In January 2009, William took on the CEO role of developing Connection Research Services in the Sustainability and Environmental sector. The company has established itself as a premier consultancy in IT Sustainability, as well as in Residential Energy Management and additional aspects of sustainability.

He has over 35 years ICT experience, with 12 years of European business. Returning to Australia in 1994, he started META Group AP, (Asia Pacific) an IT consultancy specialising in large corporate computing infrastructure. He has further experience in the property sector and online data backup services, being an early integration of Cloud Computing.

Since 2000, Mr Ehmcke has held directorships in two public companies, as founding director of Customers Ltd (ASX:CUS) - a web services R&D company which has evolved from payment gateways to being the largest provider of independent ATM cash machines in Australia, and the listing of Rey Resources (ASX:REY), a mineral exploration company with leases in Western Australia, Peru and Chile.

He holds a BSc in Mathematics, Adelaide University, and an MBA, International Management Development, University of Geneve, Switzerland.

Peter Hofman

Brian is the Managing Director and, since 1978 has completed over 1000 assignments. His life’s work is procurement; its academic development and subsequent business practice. Brian is responsible for the strategic direction of the business and for ensuring that key policies are in place. He also undertakes key assignments that require high-level skills and negotiation acumen.

He has written a number of books and articles for learned journals. Most recent book which he co-authored was ‘Purchasing and Supply Chain Management published by Pearson in August 2005, in English, and translated into Chinese. The 8th Edition will be published early 2012. He is also Co-Author of “Contracting in the Public Sector”, a CIPS level 5 study guide. An article “Action Centred Learning” was published in Industrial and Commercial Training Journal, April 2003.

Brian holds a first degree in Economics, a Masters degree in International Sourcing and a PhD in Industrial Pricing. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Peter Hofman

Peter Hofman

Peter Hofman is the Director of Company Shared Services & Integration at EDF Energy, with overall responsibility for providing Company Shared Services, including IT, Property, Finance and HR and R&D aimed at improving business performance.

Peter previously led the sustainability agenda for EDF Energy which culminated in the launch of industry leading commitments relating to climate change and social policy.
He has worked in the energy industry for over 30 years in a number of senior roles in energy supply and distribution.

Peter has been a Director of the Energy Technologies Institute since its creation in 2007.

He is a member of the UCL Energy Institute Advisory Board and has formerly been a member of the Energy Saving Trust Board and Chair of the Energy Retail Association Board.
Within the south-east region, Peter is a Board member of the Sussex Innovation Centre and is a Governor of City College, Brighton and Hove.

Andy Lawrence
The 451 Group
Andy Lawrence

Andy Lawrence leads the Datacenter Technologies and the Eco-Efficient IT research practices at The 451 Group, an international enterprise IT analyst firm. Andy has also served as the program director for the Uptime Symposium, a global datacenter management and strategy event, for 2010 and 2011.

Andy is the author of several major reports covering Eco-efficient IT, power management, policy, legislation, compliance and datacenter management and energy efficiency software. He has represented The 451 Group at the Green Grid, and leads eco-efficiency research component in the EU’s Optimis project on open cloud services.

Before joining The 451 Group to focus on eco-efficiency, Andy was the co-founder of Infoconomy, a new generation technology publishing and information company, and was an influential technology editor, launching several influential magazines and information services which enjoyed critical and commercial success in Europe and the US.

Simon Mingay
Research Vice President, Gartner Research
Simon Mingay

Simon Mingay is a research vice president in Gartner Research. Mr. Mingay is currently researching environmental sustainability and climate change, their impact on organizations, and their impact on IT and the IT industry. He has researched and written extensively on issues related to the management of IT, such as the evolving IS organization, business-IT alignment, governance, service management, ITIL, process improvement, disaster recovery and business continuity management.

John Sutton
John Sutton

John is a former lead policy developer at CESG. He is the author of Information Assurance Standard 5 (IAS5), which sets out the UK national standards for the secure disposal of retired IT assets and also the secure sanitisation of sensitive data.

In the development of IAS5, John designed the current data wiping and degaussing standards and also established the test specifications and procedures that lead to the current range of data sanitisation products approved by CESG.

John worked with many international and national organisations, academia and commercial companies in the development of IAS5 and is now regarded as a leading expert of asset disposal and secure data destruction. John has helped develop ADISA since its launch and is the joint author of the ADISA ITAD Standard 2011 and the new ADISA Data Controller Standard (ADS1) for launch in December 2011.

John has also been CLAS consultant; a lecturer on a range of information security topics at the National School of Government and is a ISO 27001 Lead Auditor.

Dick Taplin
Junior Bursar, Downing College, University of Cambridge
Dick Taplin

Dick Taplin is Junior Bursar at Downing College since 2002 after having spent 30 years in Royal Air Force logistics. He won the national British Gas Energy Efficiency Award in 1993 and 1994 while commanding the Supply Squadron, RAF Cottesmore and , fifteen years later, Downing College is the only college to have achieved Carbon Trust certification, coming top of the CUECS Survey in 2010. He is Secretary of the Bursars’ Environment & Planning Sub-Committee, and practicing what he preaches, he has a solar PV array on his own house.

Chris Wallace

My main responsibilities include developing certifications and learning material for IT professionals to gain the skills necessary to respond to the new demand for Greener IT. I also work with key industry individuals in both the public and private sector to deliver and promote best practice in energy efficiency.

I have been in this area for a relatively short space of time but have quickly become enthused by the importance of Green IT
