For the past few years, Revolution’s events have included an increasing focus on green and ethical business issues, educating hundreds of senior executives about the environmental and social impact of their business decisions.

We have also used these opportunities to inform and shape our own policies in this area and now pride ourselves in setting an example across the full range of our event management activities.

Our high level of commitment to being a socially responsible company involves playing a positive role in the community and employing sustainable business practices whenever we can.

Specific measures include:

  • Introducing redesigned operations & logistics processes to reduce the environmental impact of running our live events
  • Comprehensive waste management policy to reduce, reuse and recycle – including donating upgraded computer equipment and un-needed letterhead to charities and local schools
  • Avoiding unnecessary paperwork through extensive use of email, web-based information and electronic documents
  • Sympathetically converting a derelict farm building to provide sustainable office facilities in the Kent countryside (completed in 2009)
  • Firm plans for a grey water reuse, rainwater harvesting system and communal recycling facilities at our new offices (above)
  • Sourcing our electrical energy and services from renewable sources wherever possible, using the most ethical utility providers available to us
  • Increased use of Fair Trade products across the company and sending charity e-cards at Christmas
  • Offering charitable donations on behalf of high-profile speakers who do not charge a fee for presenting at our events
  • Employing family-friendly working practices such as flexible working hours, childcare vouchers and a generous non-contributory pension scheme
  • Actively encouraging members of our team to get involved with voluntary work and community projects (including Cancer Research UK, the Ghana Education Project and activities at local schools)

Why not consider whether your organisation could implement any of these practices? We also welcome ideas for other initiatives that we could adopt.
